Who am I? Hmm... that has to be one of the toughest questions a person
can ask someone. How do you define who you are? I have had guys ask
me to describe myself when they IM me out of the blue and answered that
question with something along the lines of "I am a carbon based
bi-pedal hominid from the planet Earth in the Sol system.".. not
exactly the most narrowed down description, but trust me, he deserved
it. ;-)
So, who am I? I am a full-time family caregiver, which means that I have the highest stress unpaid job in the world. Family caregivers provide billions of dollars worth of services every year and commonly receive nothing but stress and burnout in return. I am working on a website that I want to use to draw attention to this problem: FamilyCaregiving.info I am also a freelance writer. I love to write magical realism fantasy novels - that means that when you read the novel, you would have the sense that the magic might be possible - at least in the confines of the world in which it is set. I love reading, although I have little time for it any more. Caregiving and trying to help my parents keep up with the bills leaves precious little time to do all that I want to and I have set reading back onto the back burner. It should not be there. Writers need to read, to keep up with the current works of their genera. I enjoy painting and various crafts from bookbinding to carving eggs. I am currently working on a doll house with my mom and have created a website to let others follow along in our Dollhouse Rebuilding. I am a lover of the outdoors and used to spend a lot of time hiking through the mountains with my dogs or riding horses. Becoming a full-time caregiver placed a considerable limitation on my ability to be out and away from home for extended periods, which had an adverse effect on my physical activities and my weight went up dramatically. Gaining almost 100 pounds in just a few short years. I have since been working to find ways to up my activity indoors, including buying a treadmill this past winter, and am working on losing the weight. As of this writing I have lost over 25 pounds and have another 60 pounds to go before I will be back to the healthy weight range. I'm determined that I can do it. So, what else is there to know about me? I'm not sure. If you want to know more, ask, if I feel like sharing it I will add it to this page. Why "Phantascene"?
The name Phantascene is a name that I came up with years ago when I wanted to be a film maker. It began as Fantascene, however, when I was in my early teens I was in a hobby shop and saw some figures and scenery for fantasy role playing games that had the name Fantascene on them, so I went back to the notepad and started playing with the wordage for my film studio and came up with PH as a substitute for F. This worked beautifully when I referred to a dictionary and confirmed that a Phantasy - a Phantasm, was a creation of the mind. When paired with scene: a setting in a story, I had my film studio name: Phantascene - an illusion created by the mind as a setting in a story.
As the years progressed life took a turn away from my being able to make movies for a living, and I turned my thoughts to sharing my view of the world through the written word rather than through the lense of a camera. Phantascene still fit the descriptive needs of my novel writing, so I kept the name as the name of my new business as a freelance writer.
When my older brother gifted me with a website for my birthday he gave me Phantascene.com and that has now come to be the name of my writing business and the Internet home of my writing in general
